The debate of “Work – Life Balance.”
When I was starting my business, I was in it 12-14 hours per day and had to be. Gaining momentum is hard. Starting a business is even harder.
The same goes for careers.
Futures are uncertain and we all want what is best for the future of our children – good schools, housing, college education, perhaps a memorable vacation or two. Oh, yeah… we also want to build some sort of nest egg for retirement.
As the saying goes, “you can have anything you want in the world, all it takes is money.”
And when my kids were young, I was bustin’ it… MOST of us are!!
No. I didn’t spend as much time with them as I wanted to and I’m unapologetic about it. They each graduated college with no debt, got a great education, and a vacation or two.
But we did spend quality time together… sometimes it was at 0630 on the beach when I’d take my daughter surfing. Or Saturday afternoon on the tennis courts whacking balls.
Growing a career is hard. So is providing for families…
However, last night I read something my 23-year-old son wrote:
“My Google Calendar was a masterpiece, but my boundaries were not. I said yes to everything, filling every hour with purpose but leaving little time for pause.”
Work-Life balance is not easy… But turning off your phone at 8pm, and establishing a boundary, is a simple task that can be done with your thumb.
